Supporting Diverse Learners
Diverse Learners are students that may require supplementary, substantial or extensive adjustments to access the curriculum.
Diverse Learners may include students with:
- A verified disability or an inputed disability
- Acquired brain injuries
- Specific learning difficulties
- Medical conditions
Plus students:- From a non-English speaking background
- Who identify as First Nations
- Students disengaged from learning
Supporting the students apart from their regular curriculum, teachers may include:- The Head of Diverse Learning
- Specialist teaching staff
- Inclusion Coach
- Specialist teacher aides
- Guidance Officers
- School based nurse
- School Chaplain
- Advising Visiting Staff
Type of support may include:- A designated Case Manager to advocate for a student
- Access to alternate programs – Yabba, Gem, Hope Reins, SCILS
- Smaller classes for literacy and numeracy
- Individual Curriculum Plans
- In class teacher aide support
- Involvement with outside employment agencies or NDIS
- QCIA senior program
- Community access
- Accessing the Flexi Space
- Monitoring from the Student Welfare Action Team
- Co-teaching
Individual Timetables
A student is able to access any mix of classes in their year level
according to this capability, interest etc. i.e. mix of mainstream, x
class, s class
There is flexibility to move up and down a learning ladder.
Case Managers
Case Managers stay with the same group of students in Junior
Secondary. Then students will receive a new case manager in Senior
school.
Case managers are allocated to students with a verified disability.
It is the role of Year Level Coordinator to manage all other students.
Please inform the case manager of any concerns, change of circumstance etc.
