Supporting Diverse Learners
At Noosa District State High School, we are committed to supporting students to access and participate in learning. Some students may require supplementary, substantial or extensive adjustments to support their access to the curriculum and engagement in school.
Who We Support
Diverse learners may include students with:
- A verified or imputed disability
- Acquired brain injuries
- Specific learning difficulties
- Medical conditions
Our Support Team
In addition to their classroom teachers, students may be supported by:
- Head of Diverse Learning
- Specialist teaching staff
- Specialist teacher aides
- Guidance Officers
- School-Based Health Nurse
- School Chaplain
- Advisory Visiting Teachers and other specialist staff
Support Available
Support is tailored to the individual needs of each student and may include:
- A designated Case Manager to advocate for and support the student
- Access to alternative programs, including Yabba, GEM, SCILS and other programs
- Smaller classes supporting literacy and numeracy development
- Individual Curriculum Plans
- In-class teacher aide support
- Collaboration with external agencies, including employment services and the NDIS
- Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA) senior program
- Community access opportunities
- Access to the Flexi Space
- Monitoring of student progress, engagement and wellbeing
- Co-teaching and targeted classroom support
Case Managers
Case Managers are specialist teachers who advocate for students and support the development and implementation of appropriate school-based adjustments.
They work closely with students, parents and carers, teachers and other professionals to implement adjustments that enable students with disability to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers.
Case Managers are generally allocated to students with a verified or imputed disability who require substantial or extensive adjustments.
Parents and carers are encouraged to contact their student's Case Manager if they have concerns or if there is a change in circumstances that may affect their child's learning or support needs.
