Visual Arts in Practice is an Applied Subject, which counts towards a students ATAR. It is a course with a focus toward students going on to tertiary study: be it either TAFE, University or the workplace. Students can choose to select both Applied and General Art as the course compilment each other.
Visual Subjects provide an introduction to Drawing, Printmaking, Painting, Ceramics, Sculpture, New Media, Mixed Media and Textiles.
Visual Art subjects as well as developing a range of practical art making skills, encourage students to acquire and learn relevant knowledge in a range of media areas. Our focus is for students to develop the skills to create new ideas and make original artworks as they express personal responses to given concepts, inquiry questions and design problems.

ATAR Eligibility
Students need to study at least 4 GENERAL and maximum of 1 APPLIED or 1 Certificate III subjects to be eligible for an ATAR.
Special features
The Visual Art Department is proactive in encouraging students to enter their work into state and national competitions. This includes the Queensland Creative Generation Senior Art Awards, and the Australian Wool Cooperation Wool 4 Skool competition. Noosa District State High School Art students have experienced success at all levels of competition, with students in recent years having their work displayed in GOMA, as well as student work being purchased by the University of the Sunshine Coast for the University Art Collection. The Senior Art Show over the last few years has been at the Cooroy Butter Factory, a public art gallery.
Excursions
Each year all students studying an Art course in Years 11 and 12 spend a day in Brisbane visiting both GOMA and the QLD art Gallery.
Fashion students can also visit retail outlets and Fashion Week in Brisbane as part of their course.
There is also the opportunity for students studying any of the Art subjects at Noosa District SHS to be part of the school’s overseas tours. In 2014 students visited the Louvre, as part of a trip to France.
