The Year 10 English program is based on the Australian Curriculum and provides opportunities for students to develop literacy skills through a variety of media and technology. Our curriculum is designed to be relevant and interesting within real world contexts.
Students are explicitly taught a range of writing strategies and salient genre conventions which are reinforced across many subject areas. In addition, students also develop their spoken skills and advance their use of IT knowledge using filming and editing software programs.
In Year 10, we offer the ability for students to participate in Extension English for students who are operating above the expected capacity and wish to extend their skill set in preparation for senior. Alternatively, we also offer a modified English program for students who have not yet experienced success in Year 9 English, where the focus is on literacy and writing skills.
Year 10 English results are the basis for many senior subject minimum standard selections. This is an important year for students to realise that in order to complete an ATAR pathway in senior schooling, they must pass their English subject to be eligible for an ATAR. In addition, some vocation pathways also require a pass in Year 10 English.
