Economics is one of the widest ranging of Humanities subjects, critically studying how economies around the world and within Australia operate. It offers a rich host of university pathways and a highly relevant and current curriculum that responds to current events. As a general subject, it is usually weighted significantly towards ATAR rankings.
Students who study Economics benefit from a vastly enhanced general knowledge and an ability to critically understand government, financial and economic issues. Economic students develop quickly as responsible global citizens aware of critical issues and the public obligations economic systems must meet. Students are encouraged to devise their own innovative solutions to complex issues such as market failures, unemployment, wage inequities, environmental management, economic growth and international trade.
Nearly all of the 21st Century skills are practised in Economics and it uniquely studies the Entrepreneur skill particularly within business. Overall, studying Economics promotes open-mindedness, critical awareness and intellectual flexibility and vast majority of past student report that it does indeed provide for lifelong learning that is interesting, rewarding and challenging and they continue to use.

Excursions
Year 11 Environment Unit involves a day trip to Fraser Island to examine sustainable management in practise. Cost approximately $95.
Year 12 students have the opportunity to attend excursions to the University of Queensland Library or local Tourism resort for case study on employment opportunities and government initiatives.
