Thank you for your ongoing support as we work together to respond to the evolving COVID-19 situation. It is a strength of our entire school community how you have all responded and your flexibility is truly appreciated.

As all parents are aware, this year school will formally start on Monday, 7 February, with remote learning beginning for Year 11 and 12 students on Monday, 31 January.  Our senior schooling team is busily preparing for remote learning and information regarding his has been distributed to Year 11 and 12 families today. Our method will build on our previous approach to remote learning, and will provide students with a positive and constructive start to their school year.

Our school will remain open, beginning from Monday 24 January, for the children of essential workers and vulnerable students only.  Essential workers are only those who absolutely must continue to attend their workplace during this time. The Department of Education has asked all parents to consider the Chief Health Officer's advice and stay home with your children if you can.

If you need to send your child to school you must ensure your child is well and not displaying any signs of illness.

Guidelines to assist parents and students who attend school from 24th January to 4th February:

  • School Timings and meeting points:
  • Pomona Campus- Commences at 8.35, finishes at 2.40pm. Meet under J Block each morning.
  • Cooroy Campus – Commences at 8.35, finishes at 2.55pm. Meet at Performing Arts each morning.
  • Students are required to wear full school uniform each day
  • Students are required to wear face masks and need to provide these every day
  • Students will need to have their devices and equipment for each school day to access the learning@home resources
  • Our positive behaviour for learning expectations (Respect, Responsibility, Active Learning) will be the same.
  • The tuckshop is not open during this period. Students need to provide their own lunch and a water bottle is recommended.
  • School buses will be operating as normal. Masks are required for all students accessing the school bus service.

We are reducing the number of staff on our school site to minimise transmission and further protect the health and safety of our school community.

School staff will supervise any students who attend school. We will not be providing instruction and learning activities. Students in Years 7-12 are not required to engaged in any learning whilst at home, with students in Years 7-10 only commencing their 2022 learning on site from the 7th February.

Key Dates:

24th January – 4th February:  Supervision for children of essential workers and vulnerable students

31st January – 4th February: Online learning for Year 11 and 12 students (refer to update earlier today for Senior student families)

7th February: Term 1 commences

Learning from home

Whilst students are not required to engage in learning from home (except students in Years 11-12 from the 31st January), the Department of Education learning@home website is available for families if they wish to access. This site contains a range of student learning material and links to other high-quality education websites.

Please ensure you have consulted the uniform guide expectations and have all uniforms ready to go (including the correct black shoes as per the uniform guide) so your child is ready for the 7th February for the best possible start. Formal white shirt is required on the first day of school for all students.

Learning Materials

The delayed start to the year allows some extra time for families to get ready for the 2022 school year. Booklists and equipment guides are available on our website and all students will need their devices ready to go as they arrive for the start of school.  All students will have support for this as they commence their orientation program on campus in the first week from 7th February.

I realise these latest developments may create challenges for families; please be assured these decisions have been taken as a necessary response to the evolving COVID-19 situation.

The Department of Education will continue to keep all principals up-to-date with any further changes to schooling over the coming weeks and I will continue to provide parents with this information as it becomes available. Further information for parents has been developed including frequently asked questions.

I encourage you to stay informed of the latest developments relating to COVID-19 by regularly visiting the Queensland Government website.

Thank you for your understanding as we continue to work together during this difficult and unprecedented time. Take the best of care.

Yours sincerely

Stacy Wilmore

Acting Principal
