Binge drinking lesson

7/05/2015

by Brigid Muir

Noosa District State High School Year 12 health students ran a number of interactive and highly engaging Year 9 humanities lessons highlighting the negative impacts of binge drinking.

The Year 12 students provided the Year 9's with an informative look at some of the problems associated with binge drinking from a health and social perspective, and ran through an interactive online quiz, where the Year 9's could decide the fate of their avatar by choosing alternative pathways in the lead up, during and after a party.

The Year 9's were given an idea as to what drunkenness might feel like by spinning around really fast and wearing foggy "beer goggles", which impeded vision.

A pledge was made at the end of the lesson, by all students to make wise decisions on future nights out.

The pledge:
I am the voice
I make my own choice
Go for the break
Choose what I take
Every party and I will have a little fun
But I will remember to keep my head and look out for number one
I am the voice
I make my own choice
I play by feel
But I will keep it real
Every party and I will have a little fun
But I will remember to keep my head and look out for number one.
