Asbestos Removal Monday 19 December 2016 until Friday 6 January 2017

28/11/2016
6 December 2016

Dear Parents/Caregiver

During the Christmas and New Year break work will be undertaken to remove asbestos material from two of the buildings of our Cooroy campus. Further renovation work to one of these buildings will also be completed because of termite damage.  This will cause our uniform shop to operate from a new location on our Cooroy campus in the New Year.

All asbestos removal work will be undertaken by licensed asbestos removal contractors.  This project is managed by our colleagues from the Department of Public Works and Housing.  Air quality monitoring will be undertaken while the removal works are underway.

The asbestos removal works will be undertaken over two periods of five days. The first removal will be from Monday 19 December until Friday 23 December 2016, the second removal from Monday 2 January 2017 until Friday 6 January 2017.

This work is undertaken during school breaks because during the removal of asbestos containing material no staff or students, following our Department’s asbestos management policy, are allowed to be on site. Our Department’s asbestos management policy also provides, while work is done no one, other than licensed contractors, are allowed to access the buildings and facilities of our Cooroy campus, (including the oval, swimming pool, basketball courts, hall and farm) for the ten days of the expected asbestos removal works.

After the removal of the asbestos material restoration works, repairs and a professional clean are to be undertaken.  The whole of our school area will remain restricted until a clearance is provided by the Department of Public Works and Housing for its reuse.

These precautions will ensure that all students and staff are kept safely away from the area.  As you would be aware I take the issue of student and staff safety very seriously. I believe that the partnership we share as a school community means that it is important to keep everyone informed in order to minimise concern.

Our uniform shop is currently housed in a school building which, during January and February of 2017, needs work to be done to repair termite damage.   The uniform shop will be open for business from Monday 16 January 2017 and until our school building renovations are completed, will operate from classroom A9, right next to the Tuckshop.

Please do not hesitate to contact 54722210 if you have further queries on these matters.

Yours sincerely

Chris Roff
