WHY STUDY VISUAL ART?
Through studying art, students learn to be visually literate. Visual literacy is an important aspect of the technological age. Computers, videos, television, film rely on visual imagery. Visual literacy is about understanding images, and image manipulation.

Visual literacy enhances a student’s capacity to THINK, CREATE and QUESTION.

Bullet Art focuses on critical analysis skills

COURSE STRUCTURE
YEAR 11: FORMATIVE
Terms 1-3: Students visually investigate various concepts through a range of teacher directed tasks.
Term 4: Student initiated work.
Assessment:
3 Experimental folios
1 Body of work
2 Extended written critical analysis essays
2 In-class examinations
   
Year 12: SUMMATIVE
Body of work 1: Student initiated work in response to the concept PLETHORA
Body of work 2: Student initiated work in response to the concept FLUX
Post Verification Folio: Students revisit either body of work and complete new work to further develop the concept, in either Making or Appraising
Body of work/Assessment:
Using the Inquiry Model of Learning, students determine their own focus to visually communicate their interpretation of the given concept. Work includes:
  • Research: researching artists and ideas;
  • Development: experimenting and exploring art materials and processes
  • Reflection: determining possible solutions
  • Resolution: resolving finished artwork/artworks
  • Appraising: extended written critical analysis essay

The Visual Design course aims to provide students with skills and knowledge that may enable them to:

Why Study Visual Design?
The concept of work as we know is changing. There is an increase in part time or casual work. There is also a shift from employment towards self-employment or smaller enterprise. Access to work is about an individual’s ability to organise a flexible life and career.

VISUAL DESIGN is about developing these sorts of skills.
VISUAL DESIGN provides alternate pathways to success.
VISUAL DESIGN is about developing industry, eg the Noosa Regional Gallery.

Bullet Find work in the local ‘Arts and Crafts’ industry
