CHAPLAINCY IN NOOSA DISTRICT SHS Laurie Staples is the Chaplain at Noosa District SHS. Being married to Yvette, together they have 5 children, 3 foster children and 3 grand children and a dog named Oscar. He comes to Noosa high in 2008 with 20 years experience in Christian Ministry. Laurie is employed by Scripture Union as the governing authority who is responsible for employing Chaplains throughout Australia. Chaplains receive their wage through some governing funding and through generous financial donations by individuals, businesses, local churches and the school P&C Committee. The role of the Chaplain is to provide Pastoral Care for students and staff and if needed their families for all within the Noosa District State High School community. This involves meeting with individual students who either make appointments to see him or are referred by the school. Such support can mean helping students and staff through grief & loss, relationship issues, family struggles and general Pastoral Care support. The Chaplain is not a professional counsellor and all issues of a serious nature are reported to the school Guidance Officers or Principal. The chaplain works closely with the schools Student Welfare team which consists of the school-based Health Nurse, Behaviour Management teachers, Guidance Officers and House Coordinators.
