School Facilities

The Cooroy Campus is situated on a 4.1 hectare site including an 3 hectare farm. The majority of buildings are the older style design but it does have modern buildings such as the Performing Arts Block, Library, School Hall (with a parquetry air thrust sports flooring), Science Block, Industrial Technology Construction court, Art Block, Special Education Unit and Hospitality block to certificate 4 TAFE standard. The school has several modular classrooms.

Apart from the indoor sports facilities in the school hall, the school has four basketball / five tennis courts, two ovals and a 25-metre swimming pool.

The school has an agricultural section with a Murray Grey Cattle Stud, nursery propagation sheds, chickens and bees.

The Pomona campus was formerly Cooroora Secondary College built on 16 hectares in 1994. The school has four main blocks and has capacity for up to 400 students but has no specialist senior phase facilities.

The opportunity also exists for students to complete a part time traineeship during their senior school years.

The timetable is based on a five-day cycle with a four period day. Students in the senior school have Off Campus afternoons on Thursday afternoon. During this time, students may study independently at home or school, complete work placements or traineeships, participate in part-time work or attend appointments that would normally have interrupted their learning time.

The school also operates a well-developed Student Leadership program, which includes Australian Business Week in Year 11 and a Senior Convention in Year 12.

Pastoral Care

Our pastoral care program is undergoing a transition from a vertical care/roll group structure based around our house structure to a horizontal year level structure. The house system will remain as an organising theme for school spirit events such as swimming carnivals.

Information Technology

The school has a combination of computer labs, and classroom pods providing students with regular access to computers. More technology is being devolved throughout the school to enable us to reach targets set by both the State and Federal governments.

At the time of printing, Noosa SHS (Cooroy campus) is waiting for the rollout of staff computers under the C4T program. The Pomona campus has already received their computers and these are being used widely throughout the school.

It is envisaged that, by the start of 2010, curriculum delivery will be enhanced by the use of integrated ICTs across all classrooms.

Staff Profile

The school has a very experienced mature staff. There is a very low turnover of teachers and many have taught at this school for an extended length of time.

The staff shows a high level of concern and regard for students and this is reflected in the level of extra curricular activities that are organised for students. There is a demonstrated commitment by staff to participate in a broad range of school activities and to actively serve on committees and working parties. They exhibit a high level of professionalism.

There is some information on Harassment Referral Officers and the school’s approach to bullying in the Student Diary. Additionally knowledge of harassment issues is dealt with through an annual, anonymous survey of the junior school, drama presentations and lessons integrated into the Health and Physical Education classes and English classes (Yr 8).

Concerns regrading cyber bullying and theft of electronic equipment mean that mobile phones and IPODs are banned from our school. Teachers are expected to be vigilant in class and on playground duty and to confiscate such items if students are observed using such items.

Confiscated items should be brought to the office for secure storage.
