JUNIOR HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

INTRODUCTION

It is important that, upon leaving school, students are able to accept the responsibility for their decisions regarding their health.

Health and Physical Education, incorporating Human Relationships Education, involves students in learning about and practising ways of maintaining healthy lifestyles. The knowledge and methodologies are drawn from the physical, biological, and behavioural sciences. Students will learn the prerequisite skills of, and participate in, skilful physical activities. These include a wide range of games and sports, aquatics and athletics. Students will learn to improve their performance in these activities. They will examine their own place in Australian sporting society with a view to enhancing their recreational pursuits. In addition students will develop the processes necessary for making informed decisions regarding the health of individuals and communities as well as enhancing personal development. At the end of their Junior studies students should be well placed to make informed decisions on their appropriate Senior Health and Physical Education academic pathways.

LINKS TO SENIOR SUBJECTS

It is recommended that students intending to study Physical Education and or Health Education in Years 11 and 12 should complete as many of the Junior Health and Physical Education units as possible, particularly it is important to do the 390 units as these are designed to prepare you for the study load of Senior.
