Year 12 Tourism excursion to Underwater World |
The students were taken through Underwater World by the aquarium's Educational Officer Cristi Lancaster. Students learnt about some of the challenges local tourist destinations are facing with current economic and environmental pressures.
The highlight of the day was the Seal and Otter Shows. It was an educational, interesting and fun day. The Tourism Students are now working on a booklet which assesses Underwater World and its viability as a tourist destination.

Some of the schools Year 12 leaders are looking forward to attending World Vision’s Global Leaders Conference on May 14. During this conference they will look at ways the school can support some of World Vision’s upcoming projects, including the 40 Hour Famine.
Another important event this term is the Variety Show. The theme this year is Jumanji. This theatre production will enlist the talents of students (and teachers) involved in drama, lighting and stage production, visual art and costume design. The Variety Show will take place on May 23-25 with a matinee preview show on the Wednesday.
The term concludes with VINCIT Week (Week 10 of the term’s calendar). Different year levels will be involved in specific programs. Some Year 12’s will visit university campuses, while others will network with people and business they hope to work with next year. The Year 11’s will undertake the Australian Business Week (ABW) program. The Year 11’s will operate a business and make decisions to ensure its viability. Members from the local businesses will assist with mentoring the students. The Year 10’s will spend the last week of school obtaining work experience in local businesses. The Year 8’s and 9’s will be involved in excursions, team building, sporting and extra-curricular activities best suited to their interests.
It will be an interesting and busy term.
